A New Home for a Storied Practice

After more than four decades rooted in Hayes Valley, Shute, Mihaly & Weinberger LLP has a new address. In February 2026, our firm relocated to San Francisco’s Financial District, a transition that honors the legacy of where we’ve been while embracing the possibilities of where we’re headed.
Our Hayes Valley address was more than a location. For 45 years, it was a landmark where clients, colleagues, and communities found us, and where the firm built its reputation for thoughtful, tenacious environmental and land use advocacy and excellence in supporting public agencies.

A Space Built for the Way We Work, and the Work We Do
Our new Financial District office was designed to consider our environmental footprint while creating a space where attorneys and staff can do their best work. We now have more meeting spaces to support the way our teams strategize and collaborate. Just as important, we designed our new break room to create a welcoming and usable space to encourage our team to socialize and engage – because human connection is a key ingredient of the “secret sauce” that makes our firm the kind of place where most of our attorneys stay for decades.
It should come as no surprise that a firm devoted to environmental law would take its own footprint seriously. We made a deliberate choice to incorporate natural building materials and furnish the space with as much quality used furniture as possible, giving new life to pieces that might otherwise have gone to the landfill. The office is filled with an abundance of plants, bringing warmth, healthy air quality, and a little bit of the outdoors inside. We are proud to have worked with local artist Roberto Gastelumendi, who handcrafted our new reception desk out of local, reclaimed woods.

45 Years in Hayes Valley, and Many More Ahead
Our Hayes Valley home shaped us. Over 45 years, the firm grew in reputation, reach, and roster, becoming one of California’s preeminent environmental, land use, and public interest law practices. That foundation travels with us.
We’re proud of where we came from, and even more excited about where we’re going. We hope you’ll stop by and see us sometime at our new home: 550 California Street, Suite 1200, San Francisco.
