SMW Attorneys Chair and Present at Land Trust Conservation Forum
December 17, 2021Shute Mihaly & Weinberger partner Tamara Galanter chaired the California Council of Land Trust’s (CCLT) Conservation Forum in December of 2021, where partner Robert “Perl” Perlmutter presented on recent legislation threatening the permanence of conservation easements. Land trusts and public agencies from throughout California shared ideas and discussed how best to address climate change through conservation easements and restoration projects. In the afternoon, CCLT’s lobbyists shared information about new legislation affecting land trusts and conservation. Perl explained how best to prevent the termination of new conservation easements at risk under newly enacted AB 721. Tamara and Perl, as advisors to the CCLT policy committee, had negotiated a compromise with the sponsors and author of AB 721 to prevent legitimate conservation easements from being terminated as a result of AB 721’s laudable efforts to facilitate affordable housing.
