Energy
Energy law is a complex area undergoing constant, rapid change. The firm represents community groups and public agencies in proceedings before the California Public Utilities Commission including investigations, certificate of public convenience and necessity proceedings, and other rulemakings. Examples of SMW’s work on energy matters include:
- Save Southwest Riverside County: The firm successfully represented a local community group in a proceeding before the California Public Utilities Commission opposing a 500 kilovolt transmission line proposed by San Diego Gas & Electric Company.
- Environmental Health Coalition: SMW represented a community-based environmental justice organization as intervenor in power plant siting proceedings before the California Energy Commission.
- City and County of San Francisco: SMW advised San Francisco in connection with formation of a Municipal Utility District to provide electricity service.
- Town of Bolinas: SMW developed a request for qualifications and proposals to construct two photovoltaic power systems for the town’s wastewater treatment and water treatment plants and drafted the construction contract.
