SMW Earns Green Business Certification

SMW has long embraced a range of sustainable business practices, such as maintaining our transit-accessible location, encouraging the use of public transportation by providing Commuter Checks to all employees, participating in a full recycling and composting program, reusing and repairing rather than replacing office equipment whenever possible, and using 100% post-consumer content office paper.

On September 30, 2008, SMW became a San Francisco certified Green Business.  We are proud to have joined other San Francisco green businesses by expanding our commitment to green practices and employee health by:

  • Providing employees and office visitors with high quality filtered San Francisco water rather than bottled and organic fair trade fruit, milk, coffee and tea;
  • Distributing documents via e-mail or CD whenever possible and setting printer defaults to print on both sides of the page;
  • Purchasing office equipment that contains high-recycled content, is recyclable, and Energy Star-rated whenever available;
  • Lighting exclusively with compact fluorescent light bulbs and ensuring an automatic transition to low-energy mode for all computers and other office equipment when not in use; and
  • Purchasing toxic-free soaps, cleaners and toiletries as well as high-recycled content paper supplies from other San Francisco-based Green Businesses.

We look forward to continuing to work to identify new opportunities to enhance the sustainability of our practice.
